Buy WoW Classic US Gold It wouldn't be right to suggest that World of Warcraft had ever, at any point during the last 16 years, been a less than popular and successful game. The days when it was thought the biggest game in the world are long behind it, but it has been reliably raking in subscription revenue and expansion pack sales on a considerable scale the whole time. It's also a fool's errand to mark any one expansion out as a return to form; many WOW players will argue that each expansion is either a disgraceful betrayal or a triumphant comeback, but different sections of the community seldom agree on which is which.
That is where World of Warcraft: Shadowlands starts to differentiate itself. The MMO’s eighth major expansion separates itself neatly into mandatory content and optional content. In a real world filled with other fun video games and less fun real-life responsibilities, World of Warcraft is finally a more manageable experience.
Instead of crumbling under the pressure of its own conceit, however, Shadowlands thrives. It's a reinvigorated World of Warcraft that players will be engaged with following the expansion, and it feels like an addition that's still teeming with promise even after adventurers have become accustomed to its sweeping changes. While some of World of Warcraft: Shadowlands does struggle, most of these issues are broad problems that most games never have to worry about - how does a developer "properly" treat a character who is now older than some of the game's player base? - and the rest of the expansion is enthralling. All in all, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands avoids the pitfalls of recent expansions and, amidst a turbulent shift in design philosophy, manages to re-establish the game as one well-worth sinking dozens of hours into.
And, as far as the early expansion experience goes, it succeeds. World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, at least at this early stage before the first raid opens up, stands as one of the best expansions the game has ever seen. However, the sheer amount of content you run into once hitting the level cap could be overwhelming, especially if you're approaching it from the same mindset as other expansions.
Shadowlands doesn’t do everything perfectly. The questing experience doesn’t feel as fluid in as previous expansions, and the quests aren’t as diverse. And it’s still too early to see how good the endgame content and updates will be. But even with the limited time I’m willing to put into Shadowlands, I’ll actually be able to play that endgame content as it comes out. And as my real life just gets more complicated the older I get, I couldn’t ask for a better shift in philosophy from my favorite MMO.
